So I went a couple of weeks ago to my 10-year high school reunion. I know, I'm OLD!!! It was kind of weird to be around people I only knew only for a year. I was pretty much in reverse culture shock for much of the year, so it's kind of a blur to me. About 30 people were there, and 2(yes, two) of us were not married, engaged, or had like, 10 children.
So here's something funny-we filled out 10-year prophecies. I have almost no recollection of ever filling this out, but apparently I did:
EMHS Class of 1996: Prophecy for 10-year class reunion in 2006
Will I be married in 2006? yes (nope)
I will weigh: 125 lbs. (nope)
I'll have 2 children-twins (nope)
Where will I be living? somewhere in the US (yes)
In what places will I have lived? Europe, Africa (half true)
To what places will I have travelled? London (no) Puerto Rico (no) LA (yes) Vegas (yes) Barcelona, Paris, (no and no) Chicago (yes) Miami (not yet!!)
By 2006, how will I have contributed to:
my church? (keep in mind this was a Christian school)
I will be a missionary
my community?
I will work with inner-city kids (???)
What will I have done on vacation in 2005/06?
travel overseas
In what condition will the world and the U.S. be?
worse than it is now (oh, so true)
I'll be driving what kind of car?
Pathfinder, Camry, or truck (truck? where did that come from?)
I'll be living in what type of home?
townhouse or apartment (yes)
How much higher education will I have received?
I will at least get my masters in psychology (half true)
As of 1996, my goals in life are:
to become a child psychologist and have my own office; possibly open a day-care center for abused and neglected children (well, we know how that turned out)
adopt kids from Africa and China (what the hell? china?)
find my Native American roots (not yet)
Name 3 major issues that will face society in 2006
they'll invent ID numbers tatooed under human skin that will replace debit cards (look, i read it in Christian fiction "Left Behind" type of book, ok?)
we'll have a black or woman president (NO, black people, Clinton does NOT count!)
genetic engineering
What specific advances in medicine and technology will have been achieved by 2006?
everyone will have a computer (not quite)
telephones with TV screens attached (true! kind of)
Any other predictions?
the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will be canceled
sympathy for Native Americans will go out of style (see? deep down, i've always been a cynic)
It was interesting being back there. This was a group of people that I never fit in with, and 10 years later, I still felt like an outsider, although this time, I was ok with it. I was able to just to relax and enjoy myself. I think that somewhere in those 10 years, I've stopped being frustrated that I never fit in with any particular group and just learned to accept it. Hmm.
Anyway, that's enough self-relfective crap.
Hey, everyone don't forget to to vote!!

interesting... i don't think i'll be reachable for my 10th year reunion...
Kinda went through a bit of a crisis when my 10 year reunion came around this summer, and then I wasn't able to go...crisis over. :-)
BUT, in the event you get to Barcelona in the near future, you might find it interesting that you can go to nightclubs where a nurse will implant a little microchip in your arm which you can "fill up" with money...and the bartender will just scan and debit the microchip "account" any time you order a drink...It's true, I swear! Sounds like your predictions weren't too far off after all...
laura! i loved seeing you this weekend. we'll do it again. btw, that cute guy at dinner? mixed, black and korean! ^_^
